Samuel has had to sacrifice his time to use English to communicate with his wife, and to take care of his son Daniel's transportation to and from school.
Samuel carries guilt over being the cause of Daniel's visual impairment.
The accident happened at a moment when Samuel was too focused on his artwork to pay attention to Daniel.
On the other hand, Sandra, who is German, respects her French husband Samuel's opinion and has left the city to live in a remote mountain village in the Alps.
She also chose to speak English so they could communicate with each other, which she says being as considerate as Samuel.

Daniel feeds Snoop (the dog) salt water.
Daniel wants to know the truth of the case, so he goes to court against the judge's advice.

What if the husband had embraced his wife's success as a family success, not separate from him?
Wouldn't it have been nice if the wife had listened to her husband's struggles and given him more of her time and heart?
Daniel found it hard to accept his father's death because he never doubted his parents' love.
It was even more unbelievable that his beloved mother had murdered his father.
Daniel, who had a deep love for his parents, would have been able to make his own decision about the truth beyond mere facts.
