트루먼은 지극히 안전하고 평범한 일상을 사는 인물이었습니다.
자신에게 주어진 환경에 의심을 품지 않았다면, 실비아에게 끌리지 않았다면, 그녀가 있을 것으로 추정되는 피지로 향하는 열망이 없었을지 모릅니다.
어쩌면 이런 모든 우연의 상황들은 탐험을 좋아했던 어린 시절 트루먼을 깨워서 세트장 안의 세계를 박차고 나가는 필연적 용기의 근원이었을 수도 있습니다.
제가 태어난 것도 태어난 환경도 저의 뜻이 아니었습니다.
성장을 하면서도 내가 의도한 것과는 다른 상황들을 극복하는 과정이었습니다.
내가 만일 거대한 세트장 안의 주인공이고 나를 제외한 모두가 나를 알고 나의 삶에 관여하고 있다면...

'The Truman Show' scene 1
While sailing with young Truman, Truman's father encounters a storm and is swept away in a torrential downpour in front of his son.
This experience causes Truman to develop a phobia of water, and he never has the courage to sail at sea.
Later, when the actor who played his father is seen as a passerby on the street, Truman recognizes him at first sight.
Truman sees the father he thought was dead, is thrown into a state of confusion, and sees again the surroundings he had taken for granted.

From the first four candidate babies, Christophe chose Truman, who was born on the date of the broadcast, to be the star of the show.
Over the next 30+ years, he orchestrates Truman's life and tries to keep him from leaving ‘Sea Haven’ at all costs.
Christof was dedicated to boosting ratings by using Truman’s life, from birth to the present, for the broadcast.
The way he watched Truman sleep made it seem as if he felt genuine compassion for him, creating an illusion of empathy.
But the truth was revealed in the way he hunted down Truman as he attempted to escape, and brought him to the brink of death for the sake of the broadcast.

Truman sees Sylvia on a college campus and it's love at first sight.
If all goes according to plan, he should fall in love and marry her.
Suddenly, unexpectedly, Marlon and Meryl try to distract him.
Sylvia, a mere supporting character, also develops feelings for Truman.
When Sylvia tries to break the news to Truman, she is dragged out by the staff and actors, and is removed from the show entirely.
Sylvia motivates and gives Truman the courage to overcome his trauma.
Space, time, and the people around him have been focused on deceiving Truman.
Sylvia's appearance was like a rock flying in from an unknown source and causing ripples.
Reflections on The Truman Show
Truman was a man who lived an extremely safe and mundane life.
If he hadn't questioned his surroundings, if he hadn't been drawn to Sylvia, if he hadn't had the desire to go to Fiji, where she was presumed to be.
Perhaps all of these coincidences were the source of the inevitable courage that awakened Truman as a child with a love of exploration and spurred him to leave the world on set.
Neither my birth nor the circumstances I was born into were meant for me.
It was a process of growing up and overcoming circumstances that were not what I intended.
If I was the main character on a huge set and everyone knew me and was involved in my life except me...
And then I find out about it by accident, like Truman...
Would I have the courage to overcome my fear and jump into the ocean?
Or would I accept the whole contrived situation and settle for complacency?
